Kuch Ankahi brought up multiple & critical pressure points in under 50 minutes that totally blew us away!

From inheritance rights of women to the right to propose to a man you want to marry, to a platonic relationship between a guy and girl and how it’s viewed in our society – Kuch Ankahi makes those of us who think they were big on women empowerment do a double take – are we really as inclusive about women’s rights? And the narrative holds up the mirror to us in gentle, thought-provoking ways, not in loud, blatant dialogues.
Property Rights & Women
Sophia phoppo claiming her property rights with none of her brothers supporting her is a real-life drama many families must have lived. Not just that, but her telling off Samiya’s mom repeatedly about her marriage in a sane, yet firm manner is so relatable – many must have looked in the mirror, if they were honest, and spotted a reflection.
But what is Sophia playing at now by pushing the ruskhsati? Is she doing a reverse psychology move on Samiya, does she want to provoke her into action, or does she really believe that Samiya wants to spend her life with Saif? Either way, she was very perceptive in pointing out that Samiya has been persecuted at home too, and no one in the family is just letting her be. Sometimes, when we stop trying to brainwash a person into our way of thinking, they might not be so defensive and get time to think for themselves. They might also, surprisingly, arrive at the right decision, but we have to give them that breathing space. And let nature take its course. We also have to respect another’s decision, no matter how hard that sounds, even if we think it’s wrong.
Changing Women Stereotypes
Enter Shagufta, the girl Saif wants to really marry and did that public proposal not take you completely by surprise? Did you feel it was too forward of Shagufta or that girls who are in love with guys like Saif should always take the first step? Were we judging Shagufta too? Do you think her character was grey enough to steer clear of blatant toxicity yet, confident enough to take control of her destiny. Is Shagufta a welcome addition to changing the women stereotype in our society?
Platonic Relationships Between Men & Women
Tanya and Ali friendship is warming our hearts though we feel for Ali and not sure about his family problem. Kuch Ankahi is unraveling one plot after another, bit by bit, to keep us guessing. We fear Meenu’s daughter is going to be in for trouble. We also sensed Aaliya’s concern and pressure about the family finances and we missed the Salman- Aaliya face-offs we so look forward to.
A Chance At Love!
On the other hand, do you think Salman’s friend and Samiya might have a story together at some point? Our minds are already racing ahead as we find relief that not all family is toxic, when Tufail chacha called Samiya’s dad to clarify he hadn’t sent the court notice. Tanya avoiding Samiya’s rishta moment by staying back in college was so touching.
The Smile Moments
Of all the moments, we loved Aaliya’s spirited confrontation of Saif about the Clifton shopping mall, and subsequently, Sophia and Aaliya teaming up against Saif was another high point – “yeh bolta bhi hai!” Yeah, our thoughts exactly!
