
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria on Monday, 2023 caused massive destruction and death. The death toll in Turkey has now reached 5,894, and in Syria 2,032, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Over 15,800 people were injured and 4,300 people perished in Turkey alone, with the total death toll expected to rise significantly. Rescue teams have been working around the clock in an effort to locate trapped survivors, with more than 24,400 searches and rescue personnel deployed to the affected area. The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 23 kilometers east of Nurdagi in Gaziantep province and is the most powerful earthquake to hit Turkey in the past 25 years.

Reports of miraculous rescues have surfaced amid the sorrow and horror of the natural disaster.
1. Baby Born Under The Rubble
After the deadly earthquakes that shook the nation and Turkey, a mother who gave birth to a newborn daughter while buried under the rubble of a collapsed building in Syria has been rescued. The infant’s umbilical cord was still attached to her mother, who had been discovered dead when she was discovered buried beneath the wreckage. The infant however was her family’s only survivor of the building fall.

2. A Family Rescued
In the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, a man was found standing atop the remains of a six-story apartment building that was reduced to a pile of concrete rubble.
He was attempting to get help for his brother, who lived on the fifth floor with his wife and children, and was trapped in the ruins below, as rescuers attempted to make their way through the rubble.
It was a bittersweet rescue – the trapped husband, his wife, and two children were eventually rescued by workers more than 24 hours after the building collapsed on Monday according to the New York Times.
3. Man Pulled Out After 37 hours
37 hours after powerful earthquakes shook Turkey, a man was pulled alive from under the rubble. Nadir Yildiz was rescued from the rubble left behind by a nine-story building by police, soldiers, and civilians in Kahramanmaras province
4. A Two-Year Child Pulled After 44 Hours
A 2-year-old child was rescued by rescue staff after 44 hours in an area. The child was immediately provided with water and the officials kept talking to him to keep him conscious.
5. Former Premier League Footballer Rescued
Christian Atsu, a former Premier League footballer, was “successfully rescued” from beneath the debris of a collapsed building following an earthquake in southern Turkey. He is presently recuperating at a hospital. The 31-year-old is receiving treatment, according to the Ghana Football Association, which has confirmed the news. “We are relieved to hear Christian Atsu has been discovered and is recovering in hospital,” his former team Everton tweeted in response.
6. Another Family In Idlib
According to the nonprofit Syria Civil Defense, a whole family was among those who were saved on Tuesday in the western Syrian province of Idlib. Two girls and a child were seen being dragged from a building’s rubble in footage of the rescue, amid the loud, joyous cries of the enormous audience gathering. The youngsters were taken to an ambulance.

Two-month-old Dogan Bostan was rescued from earthquake rubble with slight injuries while sucking his thumb in Kahramanmaras, Turkey. His mother was also rescued shortly before him.

A little girl named Mariam has been found protecting her younger brother after they were trapped under the debris of their collapsed home for 36 hours following the series of devastating earthquakes.
