With the lockdown back in place for some and the hectic work schedules, taking care of your health is important, whether it’s mental or physical. So, take out an hour or so from your 24 hour day and incorporate some exercises or yoga in your lifestyle for a better and healthier you.

yoga

There are lots of myths and superstitions surrounding this ancient practice. Are they true or are they false? Well, here we’re busting yoga myths! Yes, that’s right. Are you ready?

1. Yoga Is For The Skinny

Do you really believe that though? The truth is, yoga doesn’t discriminate between any body type. You heard that right!

In fact, it helps you tone your muscles and in the long run, helps you lose weight too! A study showed yoga, to a great extent, helped lose abdominal fat and gave shape to the body too!

2. You Need To Have A Flexible Body For It

Many people believe yoga is only for the flexible. But this is similar to saying that you have to be fit in order to go to the gym.

Yoga is for everyone, whether or not you are flexible. If you have tight muscles, this exercise could help you loosen up those tight/sore muscles and get you back on track. So… MYTH BUSTED!

3. Yoga Is All About Postures & Twisting Like A Pretzel

It’s true, that the practice has many poses, yeah, even twisting like a pretzel too. This lifelong practise goes beyond the physical plane & incorporates practices that support mental, emotional and physical aspects of life. So it isn’t all about postures or twisting like a pretzel. For beginners, those with some physical pain such as knee or back, have adapted to lighter yoga exercises and poses which have helped them too! Another myth busted!

4. It’s Too ‘Slow & Boring’ Or It Isn’t Really A Workout

When people associate yoga with ‘slow & boring’ they are actually referring to certain styles of yoga that lean towards relaxation & are less physically demanding. Yet there are many yoga schools – for those who want a more physical experience.

This practice is not boring or slow, it’s like a ladder, starting from the simple and getting a little tough on each step. It requires your full focus and determination to complete the poses and the workouts given to you. Myth Busted!

So, time to put aside all these myths and start it today! Work for a better and healthier YOU!
