We are happy that Dunk wrapped up all those loose ends, there is nothing more satisfying than witnessing what eventually happens to all the characters that you have grown to like over a period of a few months.

From Minal & her brother to Saira & her daughter, all arrived at a conclusion.

Applause

Amal’s speech in the witness box was probably most impactful as she admits to having forgotten Allah ki adaalat. Sana Javed delivered a strong & mention worthy performance both in the witness box & when she was leaving her father’s Janaza.

The drama showed makafat-e-amal in this duniya, with Amal’s father committing suicide. Though we do question if it was wise to show two suicides in one drama… maybe her own father being accused of a similar ilzaam could have been a better makafat-e-amal?

Haider’s father apologizing to his wife & her reaction was so heartwarming. We were all waiting how will he react when he discovers the truth. It was a very emotional scene.

Coming To The Case

We are disappointed that the legal system was not shown to help Haider and give hope to the viewers. Why did they show the kidnapping scene when the main recording was Amal’s admission to Haider earlier in the room & her mom barging into court? It just set the wrong example by encouraging people to take the law into their own hands. Also, how can the lawyers & the court accept last minute evidence without any prior notice?

Maybe showing the lawyer being involved & asking Haider to source evidence would have been more plausible & would have involved the system. In summary, a thoroughly researched & better planned court case was definitely needed.

Haider himself admitted that what he did to Amal was wrong and it was irresponsible, sending out a message to the audience that if the law cannot help you, and you have no other way, take the law into your own hands and do whatever you think is right.

Final Moments That We Loved

Professor Humayun finally getting exonerated and Saira getting a job and smiling was uplifting.

The final scene with Minal & Haider living happily ever after was the cutest moment in the show.

A Few Possibilities

Dunk could have been:

  1. Shed light on how such harassment cases can be solved.
  2. A conversation starter on how people and the media can play their part in such instances.
  3. An exciting & uplifting court based drama giving hope in the system.
But unfortunately, it was none of the above…

It’s A Wrap

We thoroughly enjoyed Dunk, it definitely kept us on the edge of our seats and hooked to our screens. A huge shoutout to the entire cast; Bilal Abbas, Sana Javed, Fahad Sheikh, Yasra Rizvi, Nauman Ijaz, Shahood Alvi, Azekah Daniel, Laila Wasti and everyone else on board for delivering great performances and bringing a story with a cause to life.

Can’t wait to see them back on screen with new avatars!
