On Monday, January 16, 2023, the debut episode of ARY Digital’s new drama Samjhota aired. The drama is an Idream production that has caught viewers’ attention because of its impressive cast and attention to an unconventional topic in a conservative society. Javed Sheikh portrays Waqar in the drama, which also includes Saba Faisal, Shaista Wahidi, Ali Ansari, Adeel Chauhdry, Shazeal Shaukat, Sidra Niazi, Moomal Iqbal, and others in a large ensemble cast.

Samjhota, written by Rukhsana Nigar and directed by Asad Jabal, is a story of love, loss, and a second marriage. Samjhota is an intriguing story of a businessman who, following the death of his wife, tries to gather himself and his family. The drama highlights the challenges one must overcome when their better half departs the world.

Story Of Samjhota

Waqar Ahmed, portrayed by Javed Sheikh, is a prominent businessman who owns a construction business. He is married, has three children, and loves his wife beyond all others. Waqar has never even entertained the idea of separating from his beloved wife. Munazza, who is the mother of Waqar’s three children, is portrayed by Saba Faisal as Waqar’s first wife. Munazza is a stunning woman who loves her family and has always been fiercely protective of them. She is a devoted wife and mother. When Munnazza unexpectedly dies, Waqar Ahmed reluctantly agrees to marry Nargis, who is portrayed by Shaista Wahidi, in order to appease his kids.

When the children and Waqar reject Nargis and do not treat her equally after the second marriage, new problems emerge. The plot takes an interesting turn when Waqar Ahmed – on his children’s demands – marries Nargis. As the stepmother steps into the house, the children refuse to give her the same status and respect as their mother; now Waqar, unwillingly, has a new crisis to deal with. Will he be able to anchor the ship of his family, or will it sink? After his wife’s passing Waqar becomes demanding and impatient. He dismisses the family’s hired attendant.

The eldest son of Waqar and Munazza is Asad played by Adeel Chaudhry. Asad is married to Farah (Sidra Niazi), and the two of them have two children. The second son of Waqar Ahmed, is Zohaib, played by Ali Ansari. Zohaib weds his classmate Mehreen (Moomal Iqbal). Shazeal Shaukat as Shanzey is the youngest and most adored daughter in Waqar’s family. Shanzey is a university student and is in love with her classmate.  Shanzey also struggles to accept her stepmother. Shaista Wahidi as Nargis is Waqar’s new wife, Nargis, hailes from a middle-class family and has been divorced for ten years before marrying Waqar.

Samjhota’s Unusual Tale Puts Into Perspective A Number Of Fascinating But Little-Discussed Topics:

1. Remarriage and the difficulties some people may face after being married at a later age in life and after spending years with someone they genuinely love is at the centre of Samjhota’s story.

2. The role of Nargis illustrates how challenging it may be to adjust to being both a mother of grown children and a mother-in-law. Both of the characters are superb examples of how a relationship that develops later in life may be.

3. The drama also emphasizes the effects of divorce on women’s lives, such as social alienation, emotional and psychological pain, financial problems, and difficulties getting remarried.

4. In our society, getting married after a particular age and remarrying after a divorce or widowhood are incredibly difficult for both men and women. Samjhota presents this much needed topic in a very interesting manner.
